Background

GlobTek is a world-class manufacturer of electronics equipment including switching power supplies, chargers, cables, power cords, and batteries. Headquartered in Northvale, New Jersey in the US, the company is focused on the international business-to-business market and provides customized solutions for the global medical and IT industries. GlobTek operates around the world with eight sales and manufacturing locations across seven countries in North America, Europe, and China.

Business Challenge

Global electronics manufacturer GlobTek specializes in power supplies, chargers, cables, batteries, and more. To support its worldwide finance, manufacturing and distribution operations, the manufacturer relies on Oracle E-Business Suite applications. The company aims to run the latest and greatest applications to benefit from innovations and deliver the best possible experience to users and end-customers.  However, due to an inflexible on-premises IT environment, running application upgrades meant a costly server expansion every two years.

“As a premier AWS consulting partner, Hitachi Digital Services was the perfect choice to migrate and modernize our Oracle applications. The Hitachi Digital Services team helped us to get started on AWS and showcased extensive experience.”

Solution

Hitachi Digital Services has been partnering for more than a decade with Globtek for IT Services. During discussions, GlobTek and Hitachi Digital Services identified moving core application workloads to the cloud as the most effective strategy and began to develop a comprehensive migration and optimization strategy.  GlobTek and Hitachi Digital Services worked together to move the mission-critical Oracle E-Business Suite application and supporting Oracle Database into the Amazon Web Services (AWS) public cloud.

“As a premier AWS consulting partner, Hitachi Digital Services was the perfect choice to migrate and modernize our Oracle applications. The Hitachi Digital Services team helped us to get started on AWS and showcased extensive experience and expertise using public cloud solutions for Oracle applications,” confirms Gina Krakovyak, CIO Globtek.

Initially, Hitachi Digital Services moved GlobTek’s Oracle applications from costly and static physical servers to dynamically scalable Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances. Then, Hitachi Digital Services upgraded the entire application landscape to ensure that GlobTek could access the latest features and enhancements.

In addition, Hitachi Digital Services optimized the sizing of the cloud instances, using the wide range of instance types available on AWS. Furthermore, Hitachi Digital Services redesigned and automated backup and recovery processes, leveraging cloud-native features such as instance snapshots and automated tiering of backup data across Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) object storage and Amazon S3 Glacier long-term storage archive.

Value Delivered

By working with Hitachi Digital Services and moving its Oracle applications to AWS, GlobTek has streamlined its IT operations and optimized cost-efficiency.

Using the comprehensive security solutions on AWS, the Hitachi Digital Services team also strengthened GlobTek’s cybersecurity posture. “Hitachi Digital Services implemented a highly secure Amazon Virtual Private Cloud network environment, with different subnets to isolate systems and maximize protection. This, combined with Amazon Inspector, means we benefit from regular, automated vulnerability reports, so we can proactively respond and minimize risk,” concludes Gina Krakovyak, CIO Globtek.

By moving to AWS, GlobTek has also improved the availability of its critical Oracle applications, ensuring global users can access data, manage manufacturing processes, and deliver excellent customer service around the clock.
